The suit helps hide a lot of physical shortcomings that the modern day uniform is unable to. IMHO. the gym, visible perceived fitness level and modern fitness routines has replaced the suit as the symbol of masculinity since now u can’t hide behind tailored clothing

Again, mostly American phenomenon, as the rest of the world never got that fat in the first place.

They hate us because they ain’t us.

not true. on both accounts. its very obvious to see who is american when you are in Europe in summer. the clothing they choose is just ghastly. I can understand why so many tripadvisor posts are about how yanks are targeted by thieves etc. they simply stand out in a bad way. a lot of older europeans are actually appreciative if you dress respectfully and appropriately. This rankles along with ordering hamburgers in European cities.

I'm halfway between the Kilo posts and the anti Kilo posts. There is something to be said about decorum and respect with proper dressing being proxy indicators for certain values. But at the same time, the overly conformist suit culture being casualized is a good thing in line with historical trend patterns that predict increasing casualization from court dress to the current situation. However, the same conformity to wearing suits professionally is now happening in the same culture to not overdress and I think that is stifling.

And why is that? Is it because "Come on, bro, you're making the rest of us look bad"? If it stems from that, then it simply proves my point further.

IMO, it's because of the development of liberalism (meaning the Age of Enlightenment, not Obama or whatever).

And it’s obvious whose European in America. Every culture dresses different. Big shocker.

soon enough what you are wearing might be offensive if you don't follow the uniform code.

... bcs, as Derek points in his blog linked above, gender fluidity is the thing, so watch out.

I don't know if this is a snarky comment about gender fluidity, but many people on this board, including me, owe their look in some way to people in the LGBTQ community. Queer people are part of the reason why your trousers are so skinny and jackets a bit small. I don't mean this in a bad way, but the confluence of queer designers and the reinvention of the 70s Castroid look during the late 90s/ early aughts is the reason why so many people on this board like very slim fit clothing.

People love to make jokes about queers and gender fluidity without recognizing how much of their own wardrobe -- even personal identity -- has been shaped by queer culture.

Please touch on what does it have to do with gender fluidity? Also, what is it that you are referring to as gender fluidity?

Also, did the legging of Robin Hood have to do with the same thing? Were LGBTQ rights part of Magna Carta?
