Epaulet does it too and people eat it up for whatever reason.

I agree with you completely. A lot what E seems to do is offer knockoffs at lower prices (while arguing better quality). See the Chelsea boots, combat boots, trainers, etc. it seems to be an essential part of their model. Not that I am criticizing it; in fact, I have partaken.

Meh... Shoes are such a small part of Ep's line imo. Their shirting and trousers is where they shine, all of which fall on the dressier side for the most part, which wouldn't even fit the viberg aesthetic.

Exactly. Brett behaves like a bratty little sister. The guy doesn't take criticism or rejection well. And he punishes his customers (us) for so called bad behavior by basically cancelling the SF GMTO. It just doesn't make any sense. Anyway I still dig Viberg boots...

They've cancelled the Styleforum GTMO program? Wat?

I disagree re Epaulet. How is offering Chelsea boots a knockoff? I haven't drunk the Epaulet Kool-Aid, but they are not a copycat retailer. Everything Mike has offered is just a version of a long-established style. (and, not necessarily cheaper either)

I have met Brett a couple of times. Each time, he was very friendly and helpful. But I can see how some people might view him this way, unfortunately and unfairly.
Granted I have never met the man. My only opinion of him comes from what he posts on his Instagram page and I usually get negative vibes from that. With that said, it's probably an unwarranted opinion of the true character of that man, that much I can admit.

How do you think people would view you bunch of wankers if they judged you solely based on this **** you post on the Internet? On SF especially? I include myself in this as well.

Get real people.

Aviv, you're totally right. I would be much less opinionated if I were trying to appeal to a large demographic.
This thread should be about the boots, and the boots only. BV used his business tool, and business name, to get emotional, and asked his followers to get negative emotions towards a competitor. Odds are his legal advisers told him to get that **** down.

I am certainly guilty of it as much as the next guy, but I am amazed at how rapidly we can turn so negative about people or, less importantly, about products. I am not saying we have to like everybody or everything. I am not saying we shouldn't share criticism of people's behavior and products people make. However, in so far as most of us are here for recreation, I find it interesting that we seem to enjoy such bitterness and hostility, or why would we be doing it? Again, I am including myself in this.

We express moral outrage over Brett Viberg going overboard with expressing his displeasure at what he perceives to be a "copy" of "his design," but then we proceed to go further overboard in the process. Had Brett Viberg posted the photo of the Truman MTO next to a photo of his 3Sixteen collaboration and just asked, "Is imitation the sincerest form of flattery?" or "Do you all believe in coincidence?", I think a lot of people would have sided with him.

Now, I almost deleted this post because I am probably whipping a dead horse, which could be put to better use making some boots, but I feel that online communities should explicitly discuss the tone and politeness they wish to maintain, or, I suppose, not maintain.

How would you describe the leather? On soft side or stiffer? Interested as texture seems close to Edward Green willow calf but viberg said it was a German tannery

It's from ecopell (Germany) it's got a very cool texture to it, yet still being fairly even might say "Smooth". Curious to see how it wears, but so far I like it, and while it's not shell or something, it's a cool unique leather that I haven't seen Viberg do before and yet has a look that is sleek enough for different work environments i.e. Out in the field or at the office.

Do You Consider Sustainability When Purchasing Clothes?

  • Always - Sustainability is a top priority in all my clothing purchases.

  • Often - I frequently consider sustainability, but it isn't the main factor in my decisions.

  • Rarely - I seldom consider sustainability when purchasing clothes.

  • Never - Sustainability is not a factor I consider in my clothing choices.
