But it does appear to be a Shetland. There are a number of softer collections that should get you close. http://ardalanish.com/shop/tweed/other-tweeds/

Interesting. What makes you think it's Shetland?

Some of the Harris tweeds seem to have a similar weave, even if the tweed in my pictures above doesn't look like Harris (it lacks the roughness, as far as I can tell).

This from the Gentlemen's Gazette tweed article looks pretty similar, and it is a houndstooth variant.

That's indeed quite close. I'm starting to think Tolkien is wearing some kind of a houndstooth tweed, with a less pronounced pattern than what we're used to seeing.

Anybody see Fox’s announcement of a 10% consumer price hike in February? I thought their prices were already pretty stiff...

A question for the tweed nerds (I know you're out there): what kind of tweed might the professor be wearing in the images below? I'm interested in the weave. Some kind of barleycorn or bird's eye? Does anyone make tweed like this anymore?

This one from Caccioppoli is likely very different in terms of weight/feel/composition, but it's pretty similar in appearance:

Yes, I received the e-mail as well. They already raised their prices substantially at the beginning of 2018. Of course they can charge what they want (and what the market can take), but they are now out of my reach. I have a few pieces made from Fox cloth and like them, but alas do not have any Fox "unfunded liabilities" in my closet for future commissions.

Harrison’s Spring Ram is a potential candidate. Some RAF-ish blues with enough texture that might make them work as odd jackets. Or the 9-10 Fresco, of course. Solaro, if you want more casual. Oh wait— you want navy. First two should have options.

Orime, a Japanese textiles dealer, has some

http://orimetextiles.com/

You could also try contacting Shibui. I don't know if they have any, but I bought a length of boro from them years ago and they seem to know their stuff. They may be able to point you in the right direction.

Etsy is also worth a search.

You prob know this, but depending on what you're trying to do with this fabric, know that many of these textiles are very thick/ heavy.
