Visiting my brother and wearing his white SMP on the white Zealande strap. I love it so much and think I’ll get one for my black Seamaster when it’s back from service.

Sharp. That should be an Omega ad: “Focus on what matters…a watch on your wrist. Available now.” I read that in Robin William’s Genie voice.

I wouldn’t personally buy it unless it was already on my must have list. Even without the current hype, you might end up feeling indifferent. I think Dino owned an Explorer for years and never warmed to it. And he is very deliberate about purchasing. I wouldn’t worry about not getting another chance at retail. It seems like you are buying the current hype rather than a watch you covet.

That's correct, I owned a 36mm Explorer 114270 for 10 years. I liked the simplicity of the design, the Arabic markers making it easy to read at a glance, and the history of it as a tool watch. I think it looks great on other people. However, it spent the bulk of the time I owned it sitting in a box. I think I wore it about a 10-15 times in the 10 years I had it. It's a cool watch, it just wasn't one of my grail watches, and when choosing a watch in the morning, I'd always reach for something else. The Explorer might be the right watch for some people, it just wasn't the right watch for me.

I think this is sensible and admittedly with the way I dress the DJ would be a better companion. I am seeing the Explorer again today but I think I might let it go and continue waiting.

If you really like the Explorer go for it. But if it's not really what you want, you may still not feel truly satisfied until you have that blue dial DJ. From what I have heard pieces like the Explorer and Explorer II are slowly making their way to dealers/consumers, and they are not as tough to get as a GMT or Sub. I'd also guess waiting lists for an Explorer or Explorer II are not as long as those for GMTs and Subs. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Looks great. How comfortable is it? I don't see any air holes so I'd be concerned that I would sweat under a rubber band?

Totally comfortable. Did not notice it wearing hotter than anything else, though I think I maybe like my watch bracelets a bit looser than some of the sausage cases I see around here.

Today wearing it on the OEM Black bracelet which has characteristic waves

You need a little bigger left shirt cuff for that watch!

I let the Explorer go. I really like it as a sports tool watch and it will definitely be on my list to get in the future but it didn’t speak to me the way the DJ I want does.

I realised buying the Explorer would not bring me as much pleasure as waiting for the DJ and receiving it eventually.

For what it’s worth, my SA had 11 people on the his waitlist for a 36mm Explorer and only 4 for the DJ I want. Thinking this is slightly misleading though, most likely spur of the moment registrations of interest from when it came out. I don’t think they would have let me buy the Explorer if there was actual strong demand.
