This was from a bunch of NOS hats that a Fedora Lounge member came across when he bought out the deadstock contents of an old menswear store somewhere. He sold most of the clothes to a movie wardrobe company, but auctioned the hats off at the FL.

'60s? British suit. I suspected this one may have been older and had had the lapels chopped down to a fashionable size in the '60s. The full cut, especially the pants, didn't match the lapels. Never could prove that, though.

I doubt thre twill-weave tweed is from the 30s.
1. The Silhoutte with the "dropped lapel" shows
the Armani influence of the 80s. 30s lapels are generally different.

2. The colored casual hanky inserted by a dry cleaners from
Salem Indiana includes an all numeric telephone number.
All numeric telephone numbers were introduced in the U.S
beginning in the 1960s. Unless the owner(s) of this jacket
wore it for over 30 years, it is unlikely that it dates from the
30s.

Thanks for the comments, but you're just wrong. Low gorges with rounded lapel edges like this may not have been the majority cut, but they were definitely in existence. And '80s Armani-type jackets were cut completely differently. They may have had low gorges, but they were a bigger, drapier, roomier silhouette, not the tight tapered hourglass of the '30s like this. The lining, the labels, the fabric, the stitching - all of it on this jacket pointed to the prewar era. I just posted the picture of the pocket thing because I thought it was cool, not because it has any relevance to the age of the jacket.

Here's a shot of the interior skeleton lining. This lining style became uncommon after the '50s - '60s and '70s jackets typically have half linings, and after that full linings are most common.

I have more cool vintage stuff on my computer at home, I think. This is just what's still kicking around my Photobucket account after the last cleanout.

Excellent thread. Here are a few of mine. I only get to wear White Tie once a year (last weekend) but it's a privilege to wear these superb vintage pieces. I have some vintage morning wear also and I'll post those when I get a chance.

Gentleman's bespoke Evening Top Coat dated to 1922:
699605

Inside: Evening Tails by Watson Prickard, Liverpool, 1930s. I bought the waistcoat and bow tie together with the tails. The shirt is of a similar vintage. White gold and MOP shirt studs. Silver and smoked MOP cufflinks (not seen).
699606

Watch IWC Calibre 52 from 1911. I was able to get an extract from the IWC archives which they send you in a lovely folder and which shows the date of manufacture, the name of the customer (it was a jeweller in Austria in this case) and confirms the serial number:

Thanks, guys. All of it came from thrift stores, vintage clothing stores, and the occasional antique store over the last five years. There is a lot of vintage out there if you know what you're looking for, especially '60s stuff and later)

'60s suits and sportcoats are so common in thrift stores that I have seriously considered buying it up whenever I see it, keeping it on mothballs in a storage locker for a decade or two, and when time and scarcity has a chance to drive up the demand and price for that era's clothes, bring them out and make a killing. Someone could have done that in the '80s with '30s and '40s era stuff that was a dime a dozen in thrifts, and they'd be rich now.
