Gotcha, there is obviously no union tag to go by, so I was just taking a guess. On another note, here's a large piece of Brooks Brothers luggage from the 40's. This I did find information on in regards to the metal tag near the handle.

Couldn't pass this up tonight. Gimbel's Sandringham double breasted cashmere overcoat. The union label puts it between 1949 and 1962. Unbelievably heavy and well made. The coat weighs almost 4 pounds, is only quarter lined and is tagged a 37 short, which should give you some idea of the weight of the cashmere. Horn buttons, belted back and tons of hand work. They really don't make them like this any more. And this was a Gimbel's store brand coat. Best of all...no moth damage.

I really need to memorize how to date a union tag on the fly. I have a mental block when it comes to that.

    Numbers through the middle: Pre-49
    Numbers on the edge: Post-49

    For the post-49 tags:
[IMG] in the lower left: 62-76
    No [IMG]: 49-62

The [IMG] would be where the penciled-in "12" is on Tony's tag above.

    Picked this up last night.

Vintage Abercrombie & Fitch Alligator belt
I believe it is from the 60's, due to having "San Francisco" in the label.

Here you go. Maybe save these to your phone for reference when you're in the field.

On the 1962-76 union labels, I know that black numbering comes later than red numbering - anyone know when the switch was made?
