Im really desperate to pick up a pocket square and Ive watched all the videos on pocket squares but still dont get it. Can someone explain to me like Im 5 how to wear a pocket square I dont mean the folds but how to pick one that goes with your suit tie etc thanks.

I know you're NOT supposed to match your PS exactly with your tie but is your PS supposed to have something that compliments your tie, shirt and suit?

Derek's advice is spot-on when it comes to coordinating a pocket square with a tie--but sometimes you may want to wear a square without a tie. Indeed, a great thing about pocket squares is that they add a dash of color to a tieless outfit, especially as so many men aren't wearing ties these days. In that case you can apply the same principle, but instead try to match a color in your shirt (if, for example, you're wearing a striped shirt), or even in your socks. I know--contrasting, colorful socks are frowned on by the trad crowd but it can be pulled off.

You really don't want anything to match perfectly because it looks too contrived

Same family of colours is close enough (goes for leathers and metals too)

Your aiming to look like you just threw your clothes on without thinking too much about it and by happy coincidence it looks good (even though you have spent hours agonising over it)

The other school of thought is leave one traditional item (pocket square) out so it looks like you either forgot or don't care too much

Itallians wearing odd things or purposely messed up is a step too far for me, but they can look cool

Those canvas sneakers/socks are a bold move

It looks really good?
