He is not stupid, but if he has anything interesting to say, he's definitely not saying it.

I don’t think anyone is arguing he has anything substantive to say, rather he’s entertaining and brought a “perspective” or an “approach” that is valuable. its more of a right person right place situation. And for what it’s worth from my dealings with him (2012-2013) he was a bit aloof and fratty for sure but he did have a well articulated vision for four pins that was quite astute.

Anyways, excited to see more from you all.

I tried listening to corporate lunch, they plug some gq stuff (our cover with so and so was amazing) but mostly it is a meandering conversation, not very interesting I guess but ok. I dunno the principals involved, unlike the earlier posters, maybe that doesn't help. They sound like white americabros who think rap music gave them a personality but i'm being unfair, could be worse. Maybe a fashion podcast should be LESS pop-culture generic?

I had that exact experience in Japan. I am pretty warm-blooded and the hot office rooms in January killed me...

Ditto. I tend to think that any future somber suits I do will be in summer weight fabrics because Japan seems to be summer year round, indoors. I have been to Japan a couple times for work, and I tend to pack 1 somber navy + 1 somber charcoal suit + a half dozen shirts + ties. I go somber as I work in tech in the US, so this stuff tends to only get used for funerals and weddings otherwise.

I'd be willing to do the turtleneck thing with my tweedish sport coats if I didn't think I'd die of heat stroke

Go for it. Techwear one the best/one of my fav styles to come out of this decade. Not as impactful as grunge was in 91 but still a great aesthetic of clothing. Wouldnt mind some ACRONYM in my closet but not for those prices

Why am I feeling pulled into technical minimal cyberpunk looking clothing now...

Compete opposite of my wardrobe...

Currently I’m listening to the podcast “Talking History” about the Italian Unification and while it’s incredibly interesting I find I have to pay close attention to it, or I’ll miss an important event or fail to connect the dots.

For mindless podcasts—I didn’t think I’d be into Joe Rogan but his podcasts are so long and meandering that I can just press play during work, tune in and out, and be mildly entertained, learn something new, and laugh a little. I don’t always agree with everything he says, but he likes to be informed, has interesting guests that occasionally shed their protective exterior, and has a healthy dose of humor.

I’d like to think these podcasts will lie somewhere in the middle: informative without being too fact-heavy, casual without being too rambling, curious without being too combative.

Also, less than an hour.

Stuff you should know is usually liked by everyone, both podcasters have super mellow vibe and you get to learn about a topic of your choice...

I do like that show, and the hosts keep a good pace without getting too nuanced.

The difficulty with a podcast on menswear is taking a topic that is subject to both rules and “your eye”, add trends and economics, and not bore people to death.

I think that the bolded points are super important. So often, guests are in the "sell" zone, and it's like being at a political briefing - you may as well just have handed out notes.

We are going to shoot for 35-40 minutes. Enough for a substantive listen, but not so long that you are like "Man, are these guys ever going to STFU?"

We could also make a podcast featuring Eugene Rabkin's views on modern fashion and punish chronically annoying posters with autoplay every time they log onto Styleforum.

Maybe do a lecture-style podcast and then every once in a while, drop a Funkmaster Flex air horn and siren.

Or perhaps the complete collection of the "that's a fashion leather and you aren't bikers and bikers only dig it when chicks wear the fashion leathers. Bikers. Not a biker. Biker. Trying to wear our jackets. Bikers" entries in the leather jackets thread?

:bored:

Other english language podcasts I listen to:
-Thinking allowed (bbc sociology, very fun and quite short but with academics not randos, I believe we talked about it earlier) They'll do like a 20 min episode on selfies but have someone over who just wrote a book about it and teaches aesthetics.
-Zero squared: publishing house for neo-marxist stuff, often with a pop-cultural twist. Podcast is pretty easy of access but I guess a familiarity with important left thinkers helps (i.e. Marx, Gramsci etc)
-Useful idiots: Matt Taibbi, destroyer of pompous gasbags NYT op-ed writers is one of the co-hosts. The other one (Katie Helper) is also pretty funny
-Still processing: two black queer NYT writers talk about pop culture from this perspective (enlightening for me, maybe not for someone who lives&works in the USA in like media or academia)
-Current affairs: podcast of the magazine of the same name
-Chapo trap house: dirtbag left, a meandering light-hearted conversation about us politics and culture. They also lambast NYT op-ed writers and I ******* hate op-eds so I always laugh at these parts.
-99% invisible: how the unseen force of design shapes the social, they had a limited series about clothing
-The partially examined life: philosophy podcast with a different author/book every episode. More like your friends chatting and getting through a text than a lecture
