The Wigan Casino documentary while worth seeing isn't that good and was quite controversial at the time with those attending. It has almost as much folk music and vistas of the 'bleak north' as it does soul music.

Yes, very much 'It's grim up North'.

That said, I particularly liked the young girl that was scared to tell her dad she was going to the Casino - then there were shots of her really going for it on the dance-floor.

To be fair, Wigan has come a long way since those days and they even have mains electricity and buses, which many describe as 'houses on wheels'.

But really, you can have a good night out there and the famous Wigan Pier is pretty much an attraction for many people.

Baracuta's Tartan lining is poly-mix, so they are wind blocker, even if the outer is 100% cotton.

Love this old ad by the way. Exquisite drawing. (Seen before i know)
Clouseau. Just a thought, when the original Baracutas came out would Polyester have been about ?,nice advert.

Cerneabbas. On this Baracuta ad they speak of:"combed cotton poplin lined with red rayon plaid". Rayon (or viscose) was invented in France in 1884 and commercialised in England in 1892. it was a popular synthetic material before polyester.Yes, this advert is very nice. We had it before but on a smaller version. It's nice to see all the details.

Clouseau. Do you know what year the advert is from ( approximately) ?,I was guessing early 60s maybe,I know that that the Baracuta jackets were about long before so I suppose they had Rayon linings then, interesting that Rayon is that old.

If anyone feels a need, like me, to spread their wings and explore a wider horizon check this:

http://www.styleforum.net/t/383259/the-look-goes-on

I was just reading the following comments earlier today.Sound somewhat familiar to another earlier period?

http://www.acontinuouslean.com/2014/03/10/spring-normcore/#more-34191

"If you ask me, this would be my take on Normcore. If you haven’t heard of Normcore (it’s a supposed trend where people wear 1990s basic clothes to attempt to appear plain or normal — at a time when so many are attempting to set themselves apart as individuals). It’s conformity packaged as non-conformity wrapped up in bike shorts and goofy relics from Seinfeld."

Picked this up on ebay. Made by Pickering, a US brand. It's a 4 front-button, pull-over BD. A sort of BD/Polo shirt hybrid. The placket is about 3/4 of the shirts length, which seems pointless. Were there many pull-over BD shirts early on ? This one seems a bit of an oddity. I wish it didn't have the Greenwich Country Club CT logo on it.
A nice piece on the pullover shirt here: http://fitzgeraldscloset.tumblr.com/post/6317844627/gant-yale-oxford-pullover-shirt It's quite a tidy site, too.

During the early 60s,Pirate Radio Ships started to broadcast from the Thames Estuary etc.It was great to hear Music that was not dictated by the B.B.C.(you had the Light Programme-which broadcasted MOR Music). Before that you had Radio Luxembourg, but here was something that was slick and very popular. It`s interesting to know that the Politician(who died today)was one of those who objected to these Pirates.Tony Benn belonged to Wilson`s Government who,in one foul swoop, took away Peoples` "Freedom Of Choice" of what they wanted to listen to.All under the false accusation of hindering with the Shipping Channels. They were replaced by the insipid Radio 1,which I listened to for one day-then never bothered again. They had the Pirate Radio Jocks on board-but whereas the Pirates has a freedom of Music Policy,Radio 1 stuck to the Top 20.If Reggae and Soul was not in the Charts it did not get played. This prompted me to go looking for the Records I wanted to hear-via the Record Shops with the various Reggae and Soul Charts in them. :)

Browniecj, on the subject of Pirate Radio Ships, have you seen "The boat that rocked", with (among others) the late Philip Seymour Hoffman?
Good fun and great soundtrack.
