I just got a letter, which I am sure many others of you have as well, which conveys a special offer to all John Lobb St. James customers in response to their need of new orders in "[t]hese times of economic uncertainty." The offer is order two pairs and pay only 1000 pounds for the second pair.

Does anyone know if Lobb is undergoing financial difficulties? Is this sort of promotion common for Lobb? or is Lobb just exercising aggressive marketing techniques?

That's a reduction of 1000 pounds. Which brings the price of the second pair down roughly to Cleverley levels.

I have not heard that John Lobb St James is in financial difficulties but please bear in mind that most if not all high end RTW and Bespoke shoe companies are seeing a dropping off of orders and are crossing their fingers that they will ride out this recession. It is likely that John Lobb St James is doing more than crossing their fingers and is making an attractive offer to someone who is hovering on the edge of having new shoes but lacks a bit of confidence. Its a good offer - but bear in mind JLSt James are amongst the most expensive out there!
