Intense Question: Placket or No Placket? Or a Concealed Placket!?

(Recently Added: Picture of shirt @ post #41)

To celebrate my first post on the forums ever I am going to ask an extremely difficult question to StyleForum. I am looking to create a shirt, with the skills of a tailor, to wear *not* to the office. I plan to wear this dress shirt to gatherings, the bar in the television show Snuff Box, my friends' houses, girlfriends' houses, to dinner at a nice restaurant and to Club 33. I am going to create this shirt using the rounded portofino cuffs on MT because Matt S is really cool for making the template.

Now that you know the above details, would you recommend a shirt with a placket, without a placket OR a concealed placket? Please explain your reasoning to help me understand the stylistic differences between these choices.

About me: I am in my twenties. An additional factor to consider is that I like being flashy, not standard, but want to do so without being chintzy or sleazy.

Easy, no explanation needed; with placket.

(Okay, without I'm not keen on personally – too many of my cheaper shirts have not ahd a placket; hidden leaves the shirts looking like surgeon's gowns).

Without placket has a tendency to look cheap, whether it is or not.

Concealed just looks weird.

With Placket!

I generally have button downs made with a placket and open collars made without a placket. All personal preference.

One would look silly without a placket.

No placket FTW! It just looks cleaner in my opinion

Pretty much all of the high end italian shirtmakers don't have a placket (I assume it's an italian thing?)

Get a plocket, a placket that's also a pocket.

If you are Asian or Jewish, it is a particularly handy spot for chopsticks.

dopey gets these, although he is not Asian.

Placket for sure. Except that I do second Vox's idea of a plocket. Sounds handy for a night out with fellow SFers.

Thank you guys very much for taking the time to respond. Although I feel that while you are saying what your personal preferences are, I am not getting a good idea of why you prefer it the way you do. For example I heard that skinnier men (of which I am one) look better with no placket, and that larger and heavier guys should opt for a placket because it cuts the image of your upper half in two. Should I be taking this into account? I also read in another thread that the placket is good because it creates a clear center-line up the middle of the shirt. Is this something I should be taking seriously? Does it matter if I'm not planning to wear a tie with it? Does the shirt being solid or patterned affect the look of the placket? Will a placket make me look too conservative? I don't mean to just throw questions out there willy-nilly, but I am very interested as to why you like the placket. Thank you again for taking the time to respond and poll.
