How many of you considered yourself an "existentialist"?

Dostoevsky: men free themselves from the shackles of morality only to be chained to basic necessities (lust, greed, etc.) Overall, it's a disappointingly lugubrious philosophy.
I prefer, "Wherever you go, there you are."

Actually, I think Existentialism is a false philosophy. Aristotelian philosophy serves to elevate the one's journey through life. Most existentialists I like die of sexually transmitted diseases (Friedrich Nietsche et al. ) or freak accidents (Albert Camus et. al.)

Albert Camus is one of my favorites and quoting from his book, the Rebel: "The heart is the weak spot of the intellect". So French.

Despite philosophy having been an important component of Oxford "Greats," I never quite figured out what exactly existentialism was. It wasn't part of Greats. Hence, I have passed through life largely oblivious to it. However, as one of my pals at Oxford remarked, he thought my essential philosophy of life was one of brute irrationalism. He was probably right.

Clearly not a Pythagorean! Pythagoras did not eat beans because he believed them to be of the same stuff as humans. It lead to his death because he refused to cross a field of beans while being chased by his killers.

Ah yes, the crazy cynic. That was indeed one of the Pythagoreian tenents, to not eat fava beans. Which probably had something to do with favism actually which is still found in those areas of the Mediterranean (I remember not being allowed to eat fava beans growing up as children are more likely to be affected by that syndrome).

I am unconsciously making up for it now, hence I am a favist

From wikipedia: "His Roman equivalent was Mutinus Mutunus"

For some reason, his Roman name sounds like he has a small member. "tinus!"
