You could even put on SRAM rotors and be fine. They will basically all fit as long as they are the right size and attachment style.

There can be issues with rotor+pad compatibility, but I think that's mostly for things like big downhill bikes where people run sintered pads...some cheaper rotors say "resin pads only" and aren't supposed to be run with sintered/metallic pads.

The hoops come in? If you run into issues there is no shame in grabbing a 6 pack of local beer to bribe LBS service guys.

That’s what I did with one of my rotors. My old tool didn’t have the clearance for the rear rotor. He removed and installed on the spot and didn't charge me anything so I dropped off beer the following day.

Just waiting for the sealant to get delivered today and hope to have them on for Sunday's ride. All of our LBS's are so busy they barely have time to write a service ticket. I talked to my Trek store about getting one of my free tune ups and they want the bike for three weeks. I'll wait for our rainy season and drop it off then.

That's ******* nonsense and completely disrespectful of the customers. If you have a three-week backlog, you don't take the bike and let it sit, you schedule the work for three weeks out.

On one hand I agree, but on the other, you can't expect folks running a bike shop to have a good handle on WIP and lean scheduling.

Sure, but you could reasonably expect that a company as big as Trek would, and would expect them to have guidelines as to what the requirements are to remain a Trek store...

This is the soft bigotry of low expectations. :) Seriously, though, this is truly just a matter of caring about it. You could do something as basic as a Google calendar for simple scheduling.

The shop I used to use for service (The Bicycle Outfitter in Los Altos, CA) was always running behind on scheduling. They’d just ask you to drop it off on the morning of your appointment. Their issue was not having room to store all of the bikes awaiting service.

I suspect the issue is that a lot of these shops don't really have fully fleshed out scheduling/time estimates.

They rely on having a pile of bikes to pull from when there are idle hands or while waiting on parts for another...3 weeks is just a rough estimate of when they think they will get to it.

Not that that makes it acceptable...

When I bought my wheels, a woman pulled a full Karen because they were booked 2-3 weeks out. They kept telling her not to leave the bike for 3 weeks but to come back and drop it off the night before her appointed day. It would then be finished same day.

"But the bike doesn't work, I need it this weekend."

Incidentally, I booked an appointment for a real bike fit. I've been riding MTB for 30 years and road bikes on and off for almost 20 and have never had a real fit (other than bike shop fit). I get pain and numb toes on my right foot between 60-90 minutes on most rides. I've tried to fix this myself for years without success (cleat position, new shoes and even insole/shims). The guy uses the Retul system, is a former Tour Pro and master certified fit dude, guru, coach, etc.

It's not inexpensive at $350 but I figure with a new bike, I want to start out right this time. At 51, I'm fairly certain this will help me in the long run.
