I know I digress but I just unpacked an order from Vermilyea Pelle. Any interest in seeing or discussing? I am personally blown away, and I’m kind of sad I paid as much as I did for my weatherproof briefcase from filson....

Yes, I think it’s interesting to see what close competitors/ products are doing. Share away, and let’s see some photos!

Here she is, my long-awaited Vermilyea Pelle all-leather briefcase. Whiskey Bison Cavalier Chromexcel and harness leather straps from Horween.

I REALLY like the strap design that wraps around the bottom of the bag instead of attaching to the sides. Seems way more practical in terms of longevity. I’d say it sits between a 256 and a 257 in terms of space.

Overall I am really excited about this bag. Best leather bag I’ve ever owned probably. I still like my weatherproof briefcase, but for the value this VP bag is on another level.

Very nice looking bag. Can you go into a little more detail about what makes this bag next level over your weatherproof briefcase? It’s difficult to tell from the pictures why it may be better in overall quality.

It’s obviously subjective, but taking into account these things:

-All VP bags are hand cut, sewn, and finished by ONE DUDE, often from custom request by the customer.
-It’s almost $300 dollars cheaper
-The materials are just nicer. I can’t explain without having you physically touch the product, but the leather on the VP is objectively higher quality than the leather on the weatherproof from Filson. You can see from my photos, the leather on the straps is pretty much the same thickness as the brass hardware. It’s a tank.

Other things are just preference really. I like leather with a little more texture, and the Filson weatherproof looks a little “rubbery” at first glance. You REALLY have to break that thing in before it gets any character, where as the VP bag has tons of character from the get-go. Again, it’s subjective but those are some of the reasons. It’s just a killer bag and I honestly can’t believe he sells them for as little as he does. Incredible craftsmanship.

The leather does look very nice. Definitely different from the weatherproof bag. Also the weatherproof is finished in a way that is patented by W & C which gives it that rubbery look. There is certainly no reason that the Filson should be $300 more.

It’s funny, you aren’t the first person to feel that way after holding a VP bag. Dustin clearly does excellent work every time and never uses less than premium materials. I’m sure I will run across one some day!

Yeah it’s personal preference. I do own both and I will continue to use both. The feel of the VP bags is just incredible.

It’s the opportunity of a lifetime, you guys!

My god that’s awful.

@TinMan3 - love the tote but you are being coy - “with purchase”. What did you get?

Also, @OtterMeanGreen has been unusually quiet this week. Otter - all ok?

Great photos. I think that stitching work is wonderful - especially the diamond hatching across the base.
I don’t know what it is - materials, colours or just my own predispositions, but Filson bags shot in nature just look...well, natural.
