Opera cape is what we made. These were full length capes, same length as the topcoat. This was during my apprenticeship in Dallas in the ‘80’s.
Client was from Big Spring Texas. Every summer for the 3 years i was there he ordered 4 three piece suits and a cape from the same cloth. One for each opening night of the Opera Season.
When he ordered suits for business, we made a matching topcoat for each suit.
it’s a funny thing I can‘t explain. Had a shop in Chicago, but consistently sold more outerwear, topcoats and overcoats, in Dallas than Chicago.
They were a hard sell in Chicago.
Made tails for a young guy in Chicago that he wore for the opera and symphony. Told me he just didn’t care if no one else did, it’s how he liked to dress.
Two stories are enough, will spare you from the details about the client ordering for high Season in Viena.
Tailoring is interesting; men dressing as an expression of their lifestyle.
More stories, please and thank you. Spare not to regale us of tales.

Do You Consider Sustainability When Purchasing Clothes?

  • Always - Sustainability is a top priority in all my clothing purchases.

  • Often - I frequently consider sustainability, but it isn't the main factor in my decisions.

  • Rarely - I seldom consider sustainability when purchasing clothes.

  • Never - Sustainability is not a factor I consider in my clothing choices.
