Not sure I'd go as far to say the Stone Sentinel is 'just as good' as a CG coat, but certainly when you compare the price of that coat to say a similar CG model with respect to look (the Constable) the SS wins for price and value. Constable still gets the nod for ribbed wrist cuffs and overall nicer looking coat IMO. But I totally see the sense in just buying a cheaper coat that should keep you just as warm. On top of that, CG is overpriced at retail IMO and it's going to get worse next season.

Canada Goose can be found on sale for a little more than a North Face SS. I found a CG Merino Wool Chilliwack Bomber Jacket (this particular jacket is discontinued by CG but it was sold 3 years ago) on GearTrade last year for $235.00. Original Street Price was $700! I never pay full retail price any more for jackets and coats!

Unless you buy a fake one, the fur has never been to china, all their furs are native Canadian animals (Coyote).

Think it all depends on the animals, if they're killed and skinned to be eaten, fur is a by-product, like leather.

I'm sure a few people would have a right to get upset about garments made from say giant panda fur.

The Inuit peoples of the Arctic make anoraks of fur. While Westerners nowadays look on wearing fur as luxury, in extreme climates for human beings it can mean the literal difference between life and death. I have no objection to the ethical use of animal products for human survival - whether that is in eating them or in wearing them. In fact I endorse it!

GearTrade rarely has CG gear on sale in sizes Medium and Large. I know because I've kept a close eye on their site in the past months. Mine was Extra Large. The Merino Wool shell attracts hairs like crazy, which is probably why CG discontinued it. I agree though a new Chilliwack Bomber in good to excellent condition is very hard to find on sale these days.

Its three years since they made this particular model. Nylon inner, DWR treated Merino Wool shell. It was sold in good condition with no rips, stains or tears. The Extra Large size seems to layer well on my 5'7" 150 lb frame. I'm very happy with it and it seems like it was made to fit me.

With the temps warming up, my desire to seek out discounted CG gear is fading. I just wanted to pass along the links I was using to scan for discounts. Most are American retailers. Also last week Amazon was having an outerwear promotion. If you signed up for their outerwear email subscription, then you could get 20% off a full priced CG coat that Amazon sold directly (not the orders Amazon fulfills from Paragon Sports, etc). Might be worth checking out.

For you bigger guys, Bloomingdales.com has a Yorkville bomber, XL for $205 and a Citadel, XXL, for $250, on sale. Both are black.

You know, I find it sad how CG will not allow US companies to ship CG to Canada in order to protect the prices/profit.

CG never goes on sale in Canada and people are more than willing to $595 + 13% tax for a Chilliwack well before winter begins.

I got a US company to ship to me last winter, when they had it on sale.

But the stupid Customs guy charged me duty on it, and even though I sent in paperwork to get it refunded, haven't heard back anything. It ended saving me just about $50 over the Toronto price, with taxes included.

As I stated last winter, CG has inflated their prices for this upcoming season. At this point they are slowly inching towards Moncler territory. The Chateau retailed for $495 at its debut in 2009 and will now cost you $695 at retail this season.

I strongly suggest a different brand as a way of not supporting these crazy price increases.
