I've been looking around for this Canada Goose photo jacket and I don't think any of their online retailers have it. Anybody know anywhere you can get these? I have no plans of using it for photography which is what it is made for. I just want it as a storm shell/rain jacket and use it to layer a fleece or something underneath in the winter.

Gear up as pre-orders on it, apparently its part of the new models for fall '09.

Nice. Thanks. They had this picture up. It looks ok but don't know if it is worth the 640 US dollars. I'm starting to like the storm chaser a little better for 450. [IMG][/IMG]

There's also a giant horizontal logo spread across the back on the older CG coats, don't know about the new ones.

I dunno. I don't think it's that awful. The storm chaser shell doesn't have that but I'll probably just get a nice Mountain Hardwear shell or something instead.

I like the jacket but I will just comment that I've found front pockets with an opening at the TOP instead of slanted/on the sides is a lot less comfortable and warm too... I find my coats with angled pockets much easier to slip my hands into and the arm position is more comfortable... just a mentione. Then again, I don't own gloves.

I don't know if this applies to this jacket, but on most other CG jackets the handwarmer pockets are actually on the sides of the upper pockets, not the lower.

The CG logo is pretty interesting in that it's a really shitty version of the real United States Antarctic Program logo, which incidentally is on the standard issue jackets made by CG. I guess they really liked it but obviously couldn't use the real thing. Heres a shot of my issue parka with the USAP patch:

If you really like the jacket go for it, these things are practically indestructible.

^^^ That's what I figured but like I said it's $630-640. I can get the Mountain Hardwear 3 layer gore-tex for around 450. I still may get it but I'm going to see what else is out there for a good shell. But if you consider the fact that I can wear it year round it doesn't seem that expensive. I have a MH monkey man fleece that is warm as hell. That layered under the CG is all I would need in the winter and I can use the CG by itself in the fall and summer as a rain jacket. If anybody has any other recommendations let me know.

I don't like the look of that CG jacket at all.... there are so many better looking ones + warmer looking ones... or maybe it's just that ugly guy wearing it...

It does look a little baggy but I think he might be wearing a size too big. I don't want anything warm. I want a waterproof/windproof shell and that's it. I'll layer a fleece under it when I need to but I don't want anything insulated. The problem I have with most shells is the non-removable hood. I hate hoods unless I actually want to use it. Otherwise I want to be able to take it off or tuck it into a zipper like this CG. I have a Mountain Hardwear Dragon softshell. It is awesome and the coolest material I've ever seen but I hate that the hood is always there. I also don't want a North Face. I'm a student and literally everyone on campus wears North Face I think. That's a bad reason to not get one but I just hate the fact that everyone wears it.

Are you planning to use it for it's photographic purposes?

If not, I would agree $640 is steep but then again if you're buying for the photographic element than there really aren't too many options?

No I'm not getting it for that. I like that fact that it has a lot of pockets to hold stuff though and that is why they call it a photographer's jacket. It's a little bit excessive for me but I just like the look of the jacket. But the main reason I want it is because it would be the perfect shell for when I go back to school. I can really use it for anything. It's always rainy and windy in the fall so it would be good for that and then in the winter I can just wear a fleece under it. I don't like insulated jackets and just want a nice shell that has the option to remove or hide the hood. I really like the high collar to. That looks like it would be good to protect your neck.
