I don't mind it. I think it could be useful to those new guys like me in 2015. Back then, I had no idea what CXL was.

Lunch with my wife today. Wore the Strandmok's.

I'll tell you exactly why I do mind it, even if you don't. What's the first trick you learn in magic school from Penn & Teller? You gotta create a distraction for the audience. You go stick a big-ass tag saying how high quality the materials are, you are obviously trying to distract them from a lower quality build. Shady imo.

Wow -- I'm having flashbacks from my time in a Vietnamese prison camp -- except that I've never been to 'Nam. Yegads. If AE is trying to make an actual, honest-to-goodness hiking boot -- OK. My merrells, keens, and Danners aren't known for their beauty. I'd actually love to try a genuine AE hiking boot, if AE were to make one. But if this a fashion boot -- yuck.

I don't know what it's supposed to be. Only that I'd never expect to see something like that in an AE retail store.

Thanks for the tip. I like the leather, but apprehensive about that sole. The reason Neo brings up the Aberdeen and San Marco to me is strictly because of the 222 last they are made on. It works for my narrower-than-D with low volume feet. I have the Sanderson, made for Ralph Lauren, and it is great!

That Othello is completely different than the mini-lug. I definitely can say I like them both, but different usages. Mini-lug if I'm gonna be doing a ton of walking and will be on my feet all day, and need the support. Othello if I really want comfort over everything else, with lighter level of walking.

I wouldn't pay for them at any price. I am not at all the target demographic. That said, if I were looking for a purpose built performance boot, I don't think I would be looking at AE. I'd be hitting up Cabela's, Bass Pro Shop, REI, etc.

I guess I'm curious about one thing. The Portugal, cemented Italian, Nicaragua...I won't even go there.

But let's take all the Surreys & DR collections. The "what would you pay" is bullshit 'cause they're gonna price them just like MiUSA, ~$350, anyway. But I think there could be a market for this stuff if they priced it right, rather than inflate them way up than wait for people to buy them on firesale clearance. What do people think is fair for the Surrey & Vancouver, knowing they're GYW but lower quality materials & build.

So now AE sales associates are allowed to wear t-shirt, jeans and sneakers on Fridays? :brick:

Nothing wrong with jeans on Friday, so long as they’re professional, dark and not baggy. But t shirts? Cmon, at least make it a polo. And sneakers are never acceptable in a professional environment.

Might wanna keep an eye out for the AE Fenway. It has an Othello rubber sole, poron insole and is based on the 511. I am confident that it is Dublin as I have a custom made wallet in Dublin that is a close match to the Fenway leather. Someone on this forum has a pair of them as well as me as I see them posted every once in awhile. The Aberdeens are another animal with the toby mini lug sole but these are not entirely different (I have both but prefer the Fenway, mostly in winter).

I love the leather on the Fenway. Mine are a great oxblood meets tan color and the sole makes them a long day or foul weather option. Fit wasn't great for me, so they rarely get worn. 9.5D - if anyone is interested in them for cheap.

To quote the survey, what would you pay?

This made me laugh. Why? Because I remember feeling bad when I would see something I really didn't like in the survey, and I would answer "$100" or so. I know they want my honest opinion, but I don't like to be that insulting to AE's research team. Now, if they put a Rutledge up on that survey, that would be a whole different story.

I wore these a few Fridays this summer... :hide:

I found TTS in suede and brannonk + 0.5 in leather. Keep in mind, that's with the insert that comes with it.
