I've had several packages stolen off our porch lately (and I have no faith in Ring/the overwhelmed city police) and NMWA and other AV packages coming in. Any of you been happy w/ the UPS in store pick-up option? Wanting to make sure that won't be its own circle of hell.

I do in-store pick-up every time after a sloppy UPS delivery person placed my NMWA package by my neighbor's door instead of mine.

I think it's not bad but this one time the guy handing me my package asked if I was in a gang because he saw the Canoe Club logo so ymmv.

I used to pick up almost all my packages at a UPS store near my work but found out last week when I tried to have them hold my Black Friday NMWA package that they are now charging 5.99 to have a package held there. Probably will use it less often now. Works great though. Super easy.

Have you guys tried using the app (UPS My Choice) to track closely?

Yeah I use MyChoice for everything. I had it as a preference on the app that all my packages went to access point, and that way there isn't an extra cost. Also, I get notifications when packages are coming and can see live map delivery updates. Very useful!

I didn’t know something like that even existed. I’m going to download right now!

That probably would have saved me the anguish for a few hours before figuring out my package got dropped off one block over because one is a street and mine is a court lol

It also makes it easy to change a delivery - or request that they hold it.... IIRC

The Deliveries app is also a great cross-courier solution for anyone in the Apple ecosystem. It stores tracking info for each individual package, uses available APIs to pull in the current tracking status, and allows you to track and get delivery notifications for all of your expected packages in one place.

For instance, most packages from my Black Friday splurge (including two NMWA purchases) are making their way to me today:

I am obsessed with tracking (lol) and use MyChoice to keep an eye on all incoming UPS shipments. What I also like about the UPS system is that you can enter different names under the same address so I get to see what the wife has coming.

Another cross-courier option is the Shop App, which I believe is developed by the people that run Shopify. Things purchased through Shopify platform from any retailer are automatically added to the list and you can opt to allow it access to your email to monitor all online orders. The list can get messy at times but at least everything is in one place for monitoring purposes.

It used to be free, now they appear to be charging for that. I was regularly having my packages held at the distribution center, which is only about 10 minutes from my house, but that doesn't appear to be an option now - I can only redirect to UPS stores, which are closer to be fair, but they charge $5.99 for the redirect.

Yes they starting charging for re directs but I got a year on sale for 9.99 which is so worth it.
