the warmth of the dugdale grey twill (this might be the ideal apex of cloth/color), the subtle character of the Moon green SC and i think the biggest sleeper is the Draper's brown nailhead (probably the most divisive to us SF'ers)

You are thinking about this all wrong.

All you really need to do is work on enlarging your neck.
The cheap tailor down the street cuts the turtleneck in the back, makes it narrower, and sews it shut all for about $25. Pretty easy solution, and no one notices the seam on a chunky sweater.
