Well, this is the Men's Style section of the forum (not that that matters too much in this subject/thread).

And you did it eloquently.

I had assumed that you were thinking of this grotesque style, often (and almost completely wrongly) attributed to the Regency Dandy. While it may take some small cues from that period it is closer to later "˜dandy' styles including that of Oscar Wilde. This is far more aesthete, or modern fop, than dandy.

It is of course this popular misconception that does the Dandy a great disservice. He was without doubt the style arbiter of his era, inspiring generations of men to dress with simplicity, taste, and style.

But it did give me the unexpected opportunity to explore something I find interesting.

I think you're right that trousers looked closer fitting on girls. If you look through photos of girls from back then their jeans are closer fitting than the lads. I think this is because, in general, girls have wider hips than boys and this makes boys' / men's' trousers a closer fit on the hips and thighs as they are cut for the narrower hips of boys (most girls would be wearing the smaller waist sizes (with correspondingly smaller hips) 27s / 28s / 29s in an attempt to fit their (narrower) waists). So they look narrower, but only because a girl's shape fills them more. I have heard of girls taking in the waist of their trousers for a better fit. Trousers made for women tend to be cut with narrower waists, but fuller hips than, say, Levis.

Sorry to abuse your photos MOM, but you illustrate the point nicely: TINY hips!

Levis were expensive, and on women's wages back then, it was surprising many girls could afford them!

Back in the 60s, Levis did a Girls fit, the waist would be higher than present day girls fit, Because the higher waist a girls arse would look that much sexier, Thats if she had a nice arse to begin with lol

Come to think of it, 60s Hippy Girls in Levis with tight Tee Shirts, Looked the most sexiest of all.
