What do you do with shoes you KNOW will never again be in the rotation?

Since discovering this site, I've definitely decided there are shoes that are now permanently out of the rotation (I ummm.....own at least 10 pairs of Eccos, plus Geox, and even a pair or two of AE that are in this bucket).

I'm a self confessed "pack rat" so it's tough to just give them away, and I'll keep a few pair of the Ecco for rain shoes, if nothing else. Also, mentally, It's hard to get rid of expensive shoes that are in great condition.

Do you keep shoes you know you'll never wear again?

You can sell them on ebay. I did this with several pairs a couple of years ago and was frankly quite surprised at how much some of them went for. Then there are always thrift stores.

Thrift store too. Unless they're shoes that people here may be interested in owning and if they're still in very good condition, then they end up on the B&S forum

i gave away alot of my shoes: kenneth coles, nordstrom brands, steve maddens, etc. to my bro-in-law who doesn't care about the style/quality of shoes, as long as he gets them from me he thinks it's cool. he thinks i am really cool and stylish.
i may have done him more harm than good.

i also donated alot to this one lady who collects for widows and abused women, some organization.
i also sold a few that had alot of sf equity in them.

I've always held on to shoes I don't wear anymore as long as I could (usually a few years) and then donated them to Goodwill or gave them away to someone I know.

Great thread.

There are several shoes I don't rotate often. Some are very rare and I'd like to preserve them. Mostly I just let them sit on the shoe rack, and if very important..keep them in their boxes.

The ones that I know I'll never wear ..I sell on ebay also. So someone else can put them on their rack and never wear them =)

I like the idea of selling the shoes on ebay. But, if you have never sold anything on ebay, keep in mind that it can be a lot of work and, if the items don't sell for too much, it can be a waste of time.

yes ,ebay is a big risk on your time, effort and money.

but, oh how fun and exciting it is to constantly refresh 'My Ebay' page and see a new bid placed on your items!!!

I gave a couple pairs to an uncle in Puerto Rico and the rest gave them away to thrift stores or Salvation Army. They get good use in Puerto Rico, they wear their shoes down like crazy there.

I donate my out of rotation shoes to my sartorially challenged brother in law. I do the same with my suits and ties that are coming out of rotation. Fortunately we are very close to the same size.

My current significant other has placed a moratorium on my shoe collecting. I have to sell or donate a pair before a "replacement"is added to the wardrobe. I found this tactic to be quite soothing, and have since sold two pairs and donated three. The three pairs I donated were all reasonably worn, and of questionable square toe design (hence, no free shoes on the B&S thread). This was a sound strategy, though somehow I managed to add 8 while substracting 5...
