for me they are one of Vass's better designs and it works so well in the bordo shell too

Now I have to back off a little. I did some flying today and chose the Vass for comfort at altitude. Since I had some spare time, I also invested in an airport shoeshine, which I don't normally do. Especially on this pair, since I'd been somewhat brainwashed into not putting polish on shell Cordovan.

Anyway, the shoes look a lot better-- a little slimmer for being darker, with the shine emphasizing the top surface and therefore making it look less like a potato-shaped monolith.

Still not as elegant on my Size 45 feet as in the catalogue, but a lot better than before. Even so, I think my next 3636s will be the Budapest or Norweger (or maybe Teresianer).
