+1 on Tiffany buckle. It holds up well but Silver tend to oxidize and needs to be refreshed with a toothpaste once in a while.
I have a few silver and gold slide buckles and they are the most comfortable buckles.
Finding straps for them is another matter.

I have 1 handed down from my uncle, 1 RL engine turned and 1 from Tiffany. All engraved just with my last initial.

Yes, the end of the belt loops under and there is a snap attachment. I have Brooks Brothers straps also, but prefer Trafalgar.

Just a warning. I had ordered several last year as gifts, and brought to a local jewelry store for engraving. She did the first one upside down, so you might want to give precise instruction.
