The Modernica ones are made from the original mold, and from fiberglass, and the fiberglass gives them a lot more character.

I'm thinking more along the lines of "Sure, it just so happens I have an extra. Please stop by and pick it up!" But yeah, I think "replicas" are in my future.

The arguments as to what is genuine and what's a knock off is very complicated in the furniture realm. The Modernica example is illustrative. The original Eames chairs were made of fiberglass. Herman Miller is the authorized manufacturer of the chairs, but they make them out of plastic now(some believe the reason is for cost-cutting, though the stated reason is for the environment). Modernica makes them out of fiberglass using the original molds, but doesn't have a license. Which is the "real" Eames chair?
To answer to the question above, the vast vast majority of DWR stuff are genuine reproductions, meaning, officially licensed. The unlicensed reproductions are generally referred to as knock-offs, and unless you can be assured you're getting high quality, it is probably best to stay away.

It's really a misnomer. I believe the "within reach" part was originally intended to refer to availability, not price.
