^You should try better beers.

We had some Russian River Damnation the other day. This is the first time I've spotted Russian River in Seattle. It was a tasty interpretation of a Belgian golden ale, with a slightly sour finish.

As of recent my go to beer has been Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. When I first tried it I did not like it. Now I love it and can even find it on tap at some local bars.

Sounds like a lot of SF'ers need to be as discriminating in their beer choices as in their clothing choices. That said, I don't have a favorite, but I could name a couple:

La Binchoise Blonde
Corsendonk Abbey Pale Ale
Ommegang Hennepin
Schneider Weisse Original

Not that I drink so well on a daily basis, unfortunately.

You know, I just can't get into anything Ommegang makes. Certainly, it's full of complexity, but that's the problem. I just find it to be overly busy while accomplishing nothing. I'm yet to try the other three you listed, but I'll make it a point to do so.

I know what you mean: Three Philosophers comes to mind...

Rare Vos & Hennepin are good, though.

I just tried Hoegaarden the other day for the first time and wow it was good. I think I will be putting it into my regular rotation.

I think Russian River Brewing Company produce some of the best Belgian-style beers in the world, and I'm including Belgium in this claim.

I'm too lazy to search this thread, but have many of you guys tried the Saisons, or farmhouse beers from Belgium? I think they're perfect for this time of year. Saison Dupont and Fantome are two of my faves.

+1. Was a pleasant surprise it was real good.

I tried Chimay (red label) for the first time and was disappointed. Not that great, imho.
