Ya I love the look of that coat but I don't think it will be warm enough and might feel uncomfortable or something. Not worth the 5 bills

Heard great things about Barbour (Ask Andy folks love em) but how warm do they with the liner?

They are warm. I have both Filson and Barbour coats and liners. I save them for nasty Winter days when I'll be out all day.

i have outerwear from most of the cool sf brands--ervell, geller, ndg and some a jacket from costume national off yoox. the last one was by far the least expensive, and by far the most luxurious. ervell/geller/ndg are unbelievably overrated.

That's good to hear, as I've always though Barbours were too thin to have any use for cold weather. Do you have a particular model that you'd recommend? I've heard the Barbour Beaufort was a good starter.

My Beaufort is about 20 years old now and it's my coat of choice for upland hunting. When it really sucks outside I'll layer it with a Filson waterfoul sweater. By sucks weather I mean blowing snow with windchills well below zero Farhenheit. My body armour setup is a Filson tincloth packer with the heavy wool liner. Obviously the rest of my clothing is matched to the weather too. I've sat in treestands all day long in subzero weather without getting cold. Where the waxed cotton liner setup really shines is when you deal with freezing rain. You'll stay dry and toasty.

Like Andy Liu said, Costume National outerwear is terrrific. They are sort of "old news" these days, and doesn't get a lot of love, but Ennio Capasa has always been rightfully famous for the terrific cuts of his jackets, and it hasn't deteriorated. The retail prices are insane as are most designer prices in 2009, but you can get good value on Yoox. I really like the slightly military feel of all of their outerwear. I really like my Geller flight jacket, but you are going to have to size up one unless you have truly skinny arms. I am moderately muscular, at best, and the arms on the size 48 flight jacket and toggle bomber made me feel like the Hulk. I really like the Wings+Horns MK-2 jacket (the Epaulets are essential) coming out, and also the Krane Cyril bomber as well. Essentially, I am wearing the same outerwear I did in college, except orders of magnitude more expensive, and from chi-chi specialty stores instead of army surplus.

Seconded. I got a Sapper from countryattire.com and I couldn't be happier with it. They even throw in a scarf and free shipping. Just don't believe their shots of their clothing 'cause they couldn't be farther from the truth, color-wise.
