Winter Coat Dilemma

Despite it being like 4900005959 ******* degrees today, I think it's time to start buying F/W, and I am faced with a winter coat dilemma.

I managed to make it through last winter with a ************* Banana Republic jacket, but its seen much better days, and I've decided to finally purchase something nice.

My dilemma comes down to this: a few months ago i managed to snag a nice j crew thinsulate lined car coat off ebay for like $40. It's an older model so while it's very warm, the fit is crap. It'd cost me $175ish to have it recut to my specifications (shorten the coat, slim the arms, slim the chest, take the sleeves up. I was also considering buying some sort of military coat, either from NDG or W+H, but I worry that those coats are very trendy atm and won't be as classic as a car coat 3 years from now, and I want something to last.

EG/WWM are options, but their outerwear has never fit me super perfect OTR.

What to do?

Have you looked at Spiewak? I have a M65 from them and the fit is great and all of their cold weather pieces are lined with thinsulate. They have a lot of classic styles and the price is pretty good too.

Spiewak fits me really crappy.. have tried on peacoats and m65s from them.

Also I don't really like super military m65s, I prefer the subtler versions. Epaulettes also suck dick most of the time.

honestly I wish I could afford to buy a rag & bone jacket, as their outerwear fits me perfectly, but I don't really want to pay $1000 for stylized gap.

Teger - have you considered Sterlingwear pea coats?

I inadvertently bumped a 2-year-old thread about this while trying to help a n00b...but I have one and I love it. Very warm and very cheap, and you can have them make it to your specs (within a certain window).

I don't like peacoats, have tried many on, even own one I do not wear and will be selling (it actually is sterlingwear).
