What sport coat would you buy for $500-800?

Check out the Filene's Metro Center. It frequently has very good deals on Zegna and HF mainline among others. Sometimes you find a great deal. There's a Nordstrom Rack in Rockville/Gaithersburg that frequently has Canali if you're on the MD side and a Syms in Rockville sometimes has HF mainline/Canali, but is hit and miss. The Filene's in Rockville is generally worthless.

NoVA has its own discounters, but I'm totally unfamiliar.

The tan can work with charcoal depending on the shade (something in the middle - not too dark or too light).

However, since you are an attorney I would go with either the initial sport coat or the first one in the quoted text. They are a little more subtle and can both work with navy or charcoal pants.

or

Specifically with regard to the tan coat, could it work with charcoal pants?

An attorney is tripping to outlets for discount suiting? What has the world come to!

Drive up to Westminster, Maryland, and see Elio at English-American. I just ordered a great made-to-measure sport coat from him for $600 and I guarantee you that the final garment will fit me (and likely you) better than anything you are going to buy off the rack from Brooks Brothers. Moreover, you get to choose from the complete line of Holland & Sherry fabrics, so your selection is better to boot. Takes about six weeks .....

I live in the DC area for what it's worth. Thanks in advance.

Shameless advertising but you can check out my thread. Have a cashmere Bamford & Sons with a 18.75" shoulder that might work for you as a 42.

For $500-$800 I'd have one custom made by mytailor.com or someone of their ilk. Price is likely to be at the top end of the range, but probably not too much more. Would be fully canvassed, good workmanship, made to your specs, etc.

Ah yes, forgot to mention, the sport coat I ordered from E-A is fully canvassed as well.

Realistically, for $500-$800, my tailor will make a full-canvas sportcoat for me and probably through in a few shirts. I think that Brooks Brothers is over-rated/priced anyway.

I have picked up several amazing jackets on B&S on SF at a fraction of their sale price in a retail store. But, you really need to know your measurements and it is even better that you know how you fit a particular model of a brand. A few months ago I got a $1800 Borrelli jacket for $375 here. Fits like a dream, but I was familiar with the model.

Seconded. I just spent the morning at Elio's with my brother; we're having some suits made for my wedding next year. The man knows his stuff. He seems to prefer lots of break and the standard American sack suit look, but went willingly along with what I had in mind.

It's worth your time.
