If you don't have that many ties, I would consider shantung carefully. I feel like it's on one end of the spectrum and may not be that versatile. That and you have to be into the mangled look. There are other casual ties with texture.

It's a rare thing for me to wear a tie. I have a few formal ones I default to (navy, navy dots and navy stripes ...) but am interested in trying to wear one more often. As I rarely dress formally, even wearing a sports jacket makes me look ready to go to a wedding. Hence my idea of using a shantung to get exactly that mangled look. Drakes blue/white stripe or a brown/navy are the ones I have in mind to go with an unstructured cotton jacket, just to experiment with it really. The grenadine I bought turned out more formal than anticipated but will work with my bespoke blazer perfectly on the odd occasions it gets an airing.
I have looked for other textures but not really found anything that appeals as much, tend to be knitted which I'm not keen on. Other ideas welcome tho!
