I've always wanted a pair of more "sartorial shorts" and after pining for the shorts from the Laurence Fellows Outfit challenge a few months back, I finally got a pair of gurkhas.

Worn in a vintage way with a thrifted rayon sportshirt and some espadrilles. Freakin love these shorts, though I can't wear a tee shirt with them. Maybe I'll gain the confidence for that later.

Post is up on my blog about gurkhas!

If you don't have that many ties, I would consider shantung carefully. I feel like it's on one end of the spectrum and may not be that versatile. That and you have to be into the mangled look. There are other casual ties with texture.

Thanks for the insights, appreciate it. Need all the help I can get :)

No I wouldn't normally wear a tie with that shirt, it's definitely not a tie collar I agree and I was just testing it. I can see now that grenadine is more formal than I thought before I got it and that shantung would maybe fit the bill a little better. It's a learning curve all the way isn't it. I have absolutely no need of ties but like the look and am trying to understand how to use them so thank you for your candour because I now understand something that I didn't. :)

I do think the cotton jacket and linen shirt work together tho!

Cheers!

Very nice. That shade of bottle green is just about my favourite colour in a sweater.
Thanks!
I also love this colour, it's very versatile. Wear it with with linen, darker blues or anything in between those and it will still look good.
