If you don't have that many ties, I would consider shantung carefully. I feel like it's on one end of the spectrum and may not be that versatile. That and you have to be into the mangled look. There are other casual ties with texture.

Thanks for the advice Urb, appreciated.

It's a rare thing for me to wear a tie. I have a few formal ones I default to (navy, navy dots and navy stripes ...) but am interested in trying to wear one more often. As I rarely dress formally, even wearing a sports jacket makes me look ready to go to a wedding. Hence my idea of using a shantung to get exactly that mangled look. Drakes blue/white stripe or a brown/navy are the ones I have in mind to go with an unstructured cotton jacket, just to experiment with it really. The grenadine I bought turned out more formal than anticipated but will work with my bespoke blazer perfectly on the odd occasions it gets an airing.

I have looked for other textures but not really found anything that appeals as much, tend to be knitted which I'm not keen on. Other ideas welcome tho! :)

After yesterday's elaborate attire, and with heat and humidity rising in NYC, I've opted for simpler clothes for today.

Jacket - Ede & Ravenscroft
Shirt and trousers - BB
PS - Drake's, via The Armoury, NYC
Shoes - Cole-Haan

Indeed! I decided that being fat just for the sake of a few more pounds on my squat wasn't worth it.

Haha, I can relate! For years, I've been justifying my being fat as a side effect of heavy lifting. Now that I've stopped working out (as much), I stayed fat and now I have no excuse! I must get on to it!
