Hello!
smile.gif
For my first post here I would like to ask if anyone knows of an off the peg source for a tweed jacket in the following style..

Ok when viewed from the front a fairly unremarkable three button hacking jacket.

However the back has the waist seam, panels and vent arrangement (guards back) a la frock & tailcoat. I would like to know if anyone is aware of an off the peg source for such a jacket? TIA

Wow. Where did you find that???? I have never seen it in RTW. The reason is that the seam creates extra waist suppression. The Italians call a morning coat a "tight" (using the English word) for a good reason - coats with a waist seam have particularly strong waist suppression that has to be cut exactly to the customer's measurements to work properly. It is really poorly compatible with RTW I am sorry to say.

Interesting jacket isn't it. That example was by Dege and came up on Ebay.uk earlier this year ...if it had been closer to my size I would have snapped it up! I believe I have seen examples in late 19th - early 20th Century period illustrations and the type does crop up in period drama's on tv (I have some screen captures on a disc somewhere).

I agree the style will result in a waisted appearance difficult t get right with RTW. Interesting to note that unlike a frock coat the waist seam does not extend around to to front of the garment.

When I get a couple of minutes I will drop a line to Dege & Skinner.
