To be honest, the only exotic skin that really interests me is croc or alligator, otherwise I'd prefer a nice simple calf skin. While your comparison of other skins to other dermatology issues is entertaining, to me croc and alligator look elgant and luxurious. Its rare for these vicious animals to grow to a certain size without sustaining battle wounds that reduce the value or usability of their skins. These animals are dangerous to man and their own kind, often battling each other even when raised on farms etc. The difficulty in getting good quality, undamaged skins is part of what causes croc or alligator to cost so much more than other exotic skins. And I can definitely see where you stand with Ostrich. It does kind of look like leather with acne. But by that same logic, I guess you could say that gator looks scaley? Or lizard looks like dermatitis? It is a slippery slope! For me, ostrich is just so incredibly supple. I find it substantially more comfortable than gator. Also, at least from CF, a gator strap is something I need to save for. The 21mm lugs on the MUT Moon have their drawbacks.
Yes, actually ostrich leg looks completely different, and loos more like a reptile skin. It doesn't have the quill marks (acne). I would give a passing mark to ostrich leg.On straps for the MUT, I'll second both Dino (I don't like ostrich, exept maybe from the leg, which I don't believe looks as plagued?)
Very cool !! Thanks for the lume shot Hayward.
