Would you consider other options? If I were looking for a round dressy watch in that price range, I’d probably look to the GS SBGW231 before either of those JLCs:

Case and dial finishing are nicer (though still by machine), box crystal imparts a beautiful vintage-like glow, and no date!

I am not generally a Grand Seiko fan, but the above really is one of the most special-feeling watches you can get for the dollar. JLCs, whatever their other virtues, lack that extra bit of fairy dust.
I really like GS but they don't look very dressy to me. The markers are very boxy and have a sports watch feel.

Some form of Cartier Tank!
Nah, not a huge fan of square or rectangular watches. If I did get one it would be the Cartier Tank, though. :fonz:

Still looking for a dressier watch to supplement my Submariner. Have looked at IWC, Omega, and Zenith but keep coming back to the JLC Master Control. Think the Master Control on the left would be considered "dressy" on a black alligator strap? Versions from a few years ago don't have the blue sweep hand which is okay but a hair casual to me.

I like the Ultra Thin on the right but am used to watches with some heft and, as someone pointed out earlier, might not like the dimensions and weight of the UT.

I like the MUT and am totally not biased. Like at all.

tbh I probably would've preferred the moon phase as well but this was a wedding gift from the FIL so I'm happy with whatever it is.

EDIT: fwiw this is also my dress watch supplement to the Sub.

I thought about those but Rolex is too faddish right now. Prices are insanely out-of-whack. Want to avoid the fish-eye date window for a dress watch as well.

Prices for vintage DJ/DD are actually really reasonable, considering what the overall brand hype. You can buy either for well below current list price...it's not like vintage sport watches.

Thanks! I'll poke around a little.

Sweet, sweet Patek swag. The clutch is, ostensibly, for my wife—what girl wouldn’t want a Patek-branded purse? The GMT is for me. Unless I flip.

I've been giving the whole PP x Tiffany's thing some thought. Such an ugly color.

I think it's an attempt by the watch maker to show disdain for their customer. "We're going to make such an ugly watch, and you bitches are all going to buy it and be thankful for it."

I asked why not, to which he responded: “Our research shows that you sold a Panerai in 2015 and a Cartier Tank in 2017. To put it delicately, we need to be extra-careful about the sorts of clients we work with and these activities were flagged as potential concerns.” Head. Exploding. I stopped being nice and polite: “So, you mean to tell me, because I sold two watches over the past six years, both of which I lost money on and neither of which are Pateks, that I am somehow a reputational risk as a flipper??? That is as stupid as it is insulting.”

The GMT is for me. Unless I flip.
