Wearing it with the jacket open is even worse. That white triangle effect is eliminated.

I think in general, not just with DJs, if you are wearing a waistcoat (vest) the need and even, arguably, the aesthetic advisability of buttoning your jacket is greatly reduced. Not saying you 'cannot' or should not, just that it looks fine with unbuttoned jacket (IMO) as you are not showing acres of shirting.

I agree when the waistcoat matches the jacket. But for me, the white waistcoat with unbuttoned black jacket gives an effect more like an unbuttoned jacket with no waistcoat. I also note that my criticism is only in the theoretical world of this thread. In real life, I would have no issues with someone else wearing a white waistcoat with Black Tie.

Ok guys, finally getting around to actually starting a new tuxedo w/ one of my tailors next Monday.
Will be double breasted 4x1, black barathea, grossgrain.

I'm really not sure what to do about the lapels though. Peak? Shawl? I'm leaning peak (as it seams safer to me).

[My other rig is a single breasted w/ waistcoat midnight blue peak lapel].

Thanks!

IMO, peak is the way to go with a DB tux.

I’m a big fan of double breasted shawl collar jackets but when in doubt, go with peak.

Personally I’d go shawl. But you can’t go wrong either way.

You know what, I take it back - you already have a single-breasted peak, go with double-breasted shawl.

To add a little more to this. I'm 6'0, bigger guy, round face, size 46 shoulders:

I like the idea of a shawl, but am worried that a peak is a safer choice for my general look. If I were 6'2 and 40 lbs lighter w/ a 42 shoulder, I'd def get shawl.

Another vote for shawl with the caveat that small shawls look awful so make sure your tailor knows what’s up.

Will be made by Divij, so I imagine if I go shawl it would look similar to Andy's (or at least in that neighborhood). Above DB linen also by Divij, so I imagine thats what the shoulders will look like as well. Obviously above isn't 4x1, but can see the peaks Divij is doing there as well.

In that case - yeah. Shawl all the way.
