OK, this has possibly been discussed to death, but may be worth re-visiting..

Suppose you want a cotton long-sleeve crew-neck garment...

You have 2 options:

http://www.berkcashmere.co.uk/product.php?id=110&name=Lineker

for approx. $150

Or you can have this:

http://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=5228&vid=1&pid=883400

for $20

For the record, I got the John Smedley Lineker....but let me just play Devil's advocate here to see if any insights emerge because they usually do....

What justifies the nearly eight-fold price difference?
In the end, is there a right answer to "One is worth more than the other"? Both have their advantages and disadvantages-- What do you base the choice on?

I would imagine on a entire range of criteria:

1.) Fit
2.) Quality of Materials
3.) Quality of Fabrication
4). Characteristics of materials (cashmere is a totally different thing than cotton.)
5.) Styling details
6.) Color
7.) The kicker - PERCEIVED premium value of the brand.

By the way - not only did you pick the more expensive garment but it will also be more expensive to maintain. :slapfight:

But you made the right choice IMO - because a $20 dollar cotton garment will simply never look nor wear as well as even relatively cheap cashmere.

Actually, both garments are cotton.
