I have a wedding in April that I'd like to buy a new suit for (currently own 2 suits - one dark charcoal (borderline black), one blue - that I've worn to just about everything over the last several years, time to add something else to the wardrobe). While the suit is for the wedding, I'd like to still be able to wear it on other occasions, so nothing oddly "different". Would like to stick with charcoal color family.
I've always wanted a 3-piece suit, especially for these types of occasions. Matching a vest after the fact is obviously a pain, so even if the majority of times I wouldn't wear the vest, I'd like to get a suit that has that option for events where I think it's appropriate.
Money is a major issue. I cannot spend much more than $600, and less would be ideal.
My current fallback is a suit from BR (http://bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=85425&vid=1&pid=554648002) - purchased obviously on sale whenever the next sale is available. I know BR has a bad reputation, though, so I'm looking for alternatives in this price range.
I've looked around at Nordstrom's, Brooks Brothers, and a few of the online retailers such as indochino.com and eHaberdasher, and the issue I keep running to is either:
1. not what I'm looking for (limited 3-piece offerings in general),
2. too expensive , or
3. I'm not 100% comfortable with my sizing (mainly an issue with online retailers)
I'm 5'10", about 180lbs. The suits and blazers that I have are all 38R, although when I went into a local BR to try on the suit I linked 40R seemed to be the best fit (hence part of my sizing confusion).
Any advice would be appreciated. I'm in Chicago, so if there are local places I should look that would be great as well.
thanks
