Thanks for all the input! I suppose seeing some real ones in perso will help. Nice haul @TheNeedMachine
If you have a Saks 5th Ave or Neiman Marcus near you, or even their outlet stores, you can windowshop there. It won't help with labels because they'll have very very recent labels that you may not see at your local goodwill, but you'll definitely be able to tell how high end silk ties feel like, their weight and heft, how they hang, etc.

As 9/10 I would agree totally with your suggestion for most general purposes of understanding garments. Whether construction, feel, quality, cut, etc... there is absolutely zero other way to truly learn about these things than to go to the highest end menswear store near you and just ******* go to town. The higher and exclusive the menswear store, the more likely their will be employee specialists for each brand, and at first they may be annoyed by a look-e-loo after a sheer comment about pure passion and desire to learn, they spark up and as long as not busy, love to talk shop.

However for researching things like previous labels and such, there's one source that is thorough and there's one way to go about it. General search ebay, memorize every single keeper the brand has used in the reasonable past, HOWEVER MORE IMPORTANT, is that you memorize the subsequent text on the lining of the reverse big blade, if there is any (Old Zegna there is), and absolutely, the manufacturers tag. These line up and your good to go, if you don't know, then you'll forever be open to getting fucked...and either read that and think that's a huge responsibility, or read that and realize that 20-30 minutes of your life knowing basic knowledge like this if you thrift, is necessary, and just do it. You're welcome.

Costco sells men's fragrances?

My local stores I shop at have had women's only. Did get a bottle of Tom Ford Black Orchid there (Unisex scent, I guess?), but finding Creed there....wow, great find.
