Whatever I can, I guess. I have a pair of AE shell that I've never been able to get to truly pop, and trying a couple of different creams and waxes has only made things worse. So, I figured I'd strip and start over - but the problem is that I've been over them three times now with the RenoMat and stuff hasn't stopped coming off. Do I just need more patience? Am I doing it wrong?

The wax is most likely off and at this point you're taking the factory dye off. A good coat of renomat should be more than enough to start fresh. You have to start building back the finish in small steps with creams then wax. It will seem like you're getting nowhere but then the glow will appear.

I knew it - doing it wrong. Fortunately it sounds like I haven't wrecked the shoes in the process, so I will get to work on building the finish back. Thanks for the reply!

New to this thread, so apologies in advance if this has been asked and answered many times . . . I'm looking for something stronger than RenoMat to strip shell. Any suggestions?

nail polish remover/acetone would work for sure, but as mentioned previously, you'll be likely digging into the factory finish

I had a pair of aldens that I wanted to experiment with. bought cheap, had some buildup on the left shoe I wanted to strip down but couldnt seem to get it to the point of the right shoe. Will send to alden to see if they can freshen them back up.. If not, no biggie as I was using these to <cheaply> try out Modified Last to confirm it would work.

this is after renomat and then nail polish remover (on the left shoe only)

Here's my non-bespoke beaten up feet... Just a warning, they are gross, so if you don't want to see gross foot damage don't click on them.

G&G:

That looks familiar. I put at least 8mi/day on any pair of shoes I wear to work. My G&Gs continue to take skin from the top of my big toe but they've only ever opened it up like yours a handful of times. I've broken them in over time and it's gotten much better.

I'm also considering a move to St.C's but maybe at the pair a year pace....

8 miles per day is really a lot of walking. How do you manage to even walk at the end of the day when you have an open wound like that? :S

8 miles a day! That is some serious mileage. Door to door salesman?

why the **** would you wear shoes that mutilate your feet?

I walk about a mile and a half each weekday. A lot more on weekends, sometimes 10 miles or more on a beautiful weekend day.
