I've got Bronson's and RRLs field chinos and the Buzz Rickson 1942 chinos.

All are pretty good but I think Buzz's are the best of the three. The quality is on par with RRL for a much better price. The Bronson MFG are fantastic for the price but the both the Buzz's and the RRL have a bit better finishing.

When I bought mine from Bronson a few years ago, they were like $40 and at that price, even after factoring in the cost of their very slow shipping, they were the clear winner of the three. They've gone up in price since then and I still think they're a pretty good value at their current ~$75 price but if I also have to pay for shipping, I'd rather shop around and get the Buzz Rickson.

All that said, for this style of chino, I think Full Count's "1941 Army Chino" are my favorite, though theirs have jumped from about $150 a few years back to $270 now.

Great report just what I was looking for.

I was for sure leaning toward the Buzz chinos, but not knowing the answers to the above questions I figured I could spend as much getting it wrong as just ordering the RRL’s one time and getting it right.

I am 99% sure my Buzz Ricksons are the "1942" version (the widest leg of the three). Mine are a size 34. I know the Hinoya website says that you should expect 1" shrinkage in the waist but I don't think I got quite that much. Maybe 0.75" initially but they did stretch back out a tiny bit. I usually throw them in the dryer for a few minutes to get most of the water out but then dry them on a rack to finish things off.

I have RRL officer and field chinos in 31, 32, 33, and 34. I've found their sizing to be all over the place, but generally 33 is a safe bet for me. It's a pain frankly, but thankfully you can get free shipping both ways when buying directly from Ralph Lauren and from a lot of retailers (at least if you are here in the U.S.).

I don’t recall any RRL stuff ever truly shrink, they shrink after wash but wear for less than half a day they would go back to whatever before you washed it

I've bought a very nice shirt on Vinted in size M, but it fits a bit bigger than the shirts I bought new. Does anyone know if a a good tailer alter can the work shirts while keeping the nice triple stitching in tact?

A quick not all too intrusive solution that most run of the mill tailors would likely suggest, is take in some fabric by adding darts to the rear of the shirt. But that solution will probably only offer good results if it needs to be taken in 4CM or less.

RE my question about heel slippage with RRL chelseas. Went to a cobbler and he told me that's common with those kind of shoes and nothing much one can do about it. However, should anyone know of a solution or trick that can reduce the heel slippage ... please let me know . Will just deal with in the meantime.

Are RRL boots intentionally much wider in the heels because they are intended for cowboys/horse riders?

No.

Working cowboy boots were made with a higher heel to prevent the foot from slipping forward and through the stirrup.

Are RRL boots intentionally much wider in the heels because they are intended for cowboys/horse riders? I read something about Western boots being wider in the heels to prevent someone from being dragged by a horse in case they fall off their horse. Or something like that😭

Fairly certain the sale is a US only thing. They've been doing it off and on for many years. Usually called a customer appreciation event or similar. An SA will invite you but I think if you know about the offer and contact an SA they'll give you the offer.

RE: Chelsea boots, you've described the fit of most all Chelsea boots, at least when new. They're kind of like loafers in terms of heel slip in that as you wear them in, the sole will flex more and heel slip will improve. *Maybe* a half or full insert would help. I have a pair of these from Amzn I put in Chelseas which are a bit too sloppy fit in the heel but are fine in the forefoot. I wouldn't walk a long distance but they're okay for a day at the office wear. They're cheap enough to try.
