I never really understood mohair, despite the articles. The material just looks like a regular suit to me.

I recently read this PS article about evening wear, and this is Davide Taub's mohair tuxedo. Now I understand mohair better.

Still not sure if I like it. It does remind me of cheap polyester suits.

Mohair doesn't photograph well. The sheen would be a lot more subtle in real life.

Mohair is shinier and usually looks good at night under artificial light but, yeah, the pic above looks quite plasticky.

I think of vintage cars with mohair upholstery. Always found it scratchy, so I'm reluctant to try it as a suit fabric.

I guess that tux is 100 % mohair. I have a navy wool/mohair fresco suit that dont appear shiny.

I think the wool/mohair baratheas look good and will probably look for a tux in this fabric when my current one is worn out.

It's a little scratchy, although softer than Fresco.

Don't know if I would recommend it as a bespoke suit without having tried it in RTW because it's such a niche cloth. Someone might get one and then not like how the fabric looks as a garment. But I think it's a nice evening material.

Mark at The Armoury has worn mohair in a couple of videos. I think it's hard to show how the cloth looks in real life, but you get a small sense of it here. The cloth has a slightly swishy sound when it moves. Kinda George Costanza

I have a sport coat in dark brown 100% mohair for summer CM wear. A little scratchy as mentioned but it breathes really well.

+1. I have a couple of older (Corneliani-made) RL Polo suits in mohair/wool blends and they don't look shiny.

The mohair gives the fabric a little bit of stiffness, or a harder hand (if that makes sense) and the trousers keep a crease fantastically well. I'm a fan of mohair-blend suit fabrics.

Mohair blends in lighter colors also don’t have much of sheen at all. The very dark colors tend to shine more.

Hello, mr @DWW, how do you suggest to wear a grey shirt?

ex: View attachment 1730182

For a CM outfit, I think I would do a grey long-sleeve polo instead of a woven. And prob do tan trousers and dark brown sport coat, or a casual suit.

For a woven, I think I would do a much more casual outfit, like a grey chambray work shirt or plaid flannel with blue jeans and work boots. Some workweary outerwear that makes sense, like an olive field jacket.

Maybe other people can chime in with ideas.
