vox, welcome back.

I have this suit with white MoP buttons. I think the jacket could be worn as an odd jacket. I considered changing the buttons but decided not to, and am now glad I didn't.

At the risk of being serious, I think this concept would work with a Donegal tweed. Maybe one of the lightweight ones in the Glorious Twelfth book. Decent enough sport jacket, and a grey suit for cooler weather good for Fridays or travelling.

I agree. I recently purchased a Donegal tweed suit for fall/winter and it occured to me that the jacket can be worn separately. I don't know if I'll actually do it, but the option does exist for me.

I'm getting something done up out of the Dormueil Scottie book (DB jacket and trousers) that'll be more oftern worn as speprates than as a suit. It'd really be a weekender if worn together, but one never knows

Here is exactly that implementation from DeBoise in Glorious Twelfth...

(a) Suit...

(b) ...then jacket worn as an odd jacket...

The two shots are also examples of how unreliable uncorrected color is in digital photography. The cloth is more of a grayish blue.

I really didn't want to start a "Manton is a fraud" thread, though he deserves it, so I will say this here, where I hope it falls into obscurity without causing him undo embarrassment. But here it is:
Manton did not invent the blazer suit. Hardie Amies, in his ABCs of Men's Fashion, originally published in 1965, described it, in his entry under Blazers, as a wardrobe staple of the Monte Carlo set - they would buy a suit comprised of a blazer and matching trousers for use when a regular suit was too formal and a sportcoat and odd trousers was too informal. All Manton did was make the brass buttons brown.

No, though fresco is good with a partial lining. I went with full because I think it travels better that way.
