You want double ripstop, here's double trouble. In the earlier years, EG made a longbill cap that has been my signature cap but it has gotten pretty worn. Searched high and low for a replacement and none out there did it for me so we asked Cableami to make an exclusive for us and they called it the Gary Longbill Cap. Available only at Drinkwater's and soon to be restocked.

“I can understand why, but asking Daiki, a Japanese American immigrant, to offer an authentic representation of Africa in his collections strikes me as a paradox. The ethos behind the brand is based on Daiki's romanticized view of Americana from the 60s, 70s, and 80s, which he was exposed to growing up and fell in love with as a young adulthood.”

I think this hits the crux of the issue. EG is viewing a mythic-Africa through a filter of 80s American fashion that in turn was a romanticized view of colonial Africa.

Yes, this is exactly right. As I said in my original post, EG is citing the “African imaginary” and not Africa itself. My only question (and discomfort) is what purpose it serves to reproduce “a romanticized view of colonial Africa” (as you so perfectly put it) in 2021? I wasn’t so much suggesting that EG collaborate with African designers and suppliers as saying that, failing that, they just shouldn’t have done this at all. By doing this now, they at least read as trying to participate in a conversation that is receiving renewed attention, but purposely choosing a retrograde vision of Africa misses that conversation entirely. This is what opens them to criticisms like those in the Vogue article.

They are a one piece cap, available in medium & large with an interior velco strip adjustment under the sweatband.

Detailed shots up on Highsnob:
Noice. Brown croc print look pretty good.

I clearly don't need another pair of Hoka's but the Bondi model is so incredibly comfortable. I have a Bondi 6 and it is hands down the most comfortable sneaker I have ever worn.
