Today, I wore Yatagan one last time before boxing it up for the summer.

Two new scents arrived: SCS New Spice and Smoke and Beads.

New Spice is a sweet gourmandy scent, kind of sugar cookies with a goodly bit of spice. Smoke and Beads is incense, patchouli, orange. Will wear over the next few days. Fortunately they're quite inexpensive.

I've tried Sonoma Scent Studio's Vintage Rose a few times over the past week and today I am wearing a little bit of Winter Woods. My initial impression of Vintage Rose was wrong when I compared it to Rose 31. I think Rose 31 is a much better scent. I have come to the conclusion that I don't like either Vintage Rose or Winter Woods. I don't like the jammyness.

I'm sure you know this, but in case you don't there's a Le Labo store on 3rd St a few blocks from the Beverly Center.

SCS Smoke and Beads today.

Initial impression: orange/incense/patchouli. Pleasant, in a dry, wooden way. What it lacks, though, is fullness. After spending time with the Guerlains and Chanels, and even to a lesser extent some of the niche lines, I'd come to realize that there's a good bit of underlayment behind the main themes, and SCS - from the scents I've tried - eschews that. Maybe it's vanilla or floral notes, or amber or benzoin or oakmoss. Probably would benefit from vanilla/benzoin/oakmoss in the base, but then it wouldn't be so inexpensive.

What is the longevity of SCS EDTs? Besides Smoke and Beads , do you like any other EDT from them?

Never mind, read some online reviews and the longevity seems to be good. Their prices are so low that I ordered Smoke and Beads plus a couple other EDTs.

Within a couple of hours, Smoke and Beads mellowed down a good bit from the mildly harsh opening. Now, 6 hours later, it's present but not really jumping out at me, which is fine.

As for others: Bay Rum with a Twist is light and fleeting but perfect for hot summer days. Lavendula and Oakmoss is kind of hard to like - too dry and formal. I ended up splitting a vanilla pod and let that sit in a large vial with L&O, and it developed a better presence and depth. It's now a bit like Jicky, minus the civet.

Tomorrow I'll probably wear New Spice and see how that one plays out. Sue seems to think very highly of it.

Thanks for the reply, and thanks for mentioning a nice fragrance that I had never heard of!
I ordered both Bay Rum with a twist and New Spice along with Smoke and Beads. And my order has already been shipped, I can't wait to try out this stuff!

Wearing SCS New Spice today, and I have to admit it's pretty damn good. Longevity isn't all that great, and I partly blame the atomizer for scattering it about as it does. New Spice is a well-balanced fruity/spicy gourmand. Not too far from Rochas Man or a much-simpler Sushi Imperiale - now that I think of it, I'll have to try the two side-by-side.

Thomas - if you like that Sushi Imperiale, I'm excited for you to try that Ambre Narguile. I think I put some in the box, not sure though. Same warm cinimon thing going on, sort of like Opium PH.

Today it's Paco Rabanne PH. Clean Green fighting machine.
