I usually send groups with unknown tolerances to the more Americanized joints. Some people freak out at signs in written in hangul, especially when there's MS-13 grafitti in the parking lot . . .
That's probably wise. And my sensibilities may be skewed because I used to go out a lot in K-town with a Korean American buddy, but Chosun does strike me as friendly and accessible once you get inside (although I take your point about the outside appearance). The space is modern and bright, the staff have always been friendly and helpful, and the menus are in clear English as well as Hangul. But any of the three places mentioned are good eats.
