That's probably wise. And my sensibilities may be skewed because I used to go out a lot in K-town with a Korean American buddy, but Chosun does strike me as friendly and accessible once you get inside (although I take your point about the outside appearance). The space is modern and bright, the staff have always been friendly and helpful, and the menus are in clear English as well as Hangul. But any of the three places mentioned are good eats.

I think Orris on Sawtelle is awesome and I've never had a hard time getting a table there, though I've never been there at prime time. It's a Japanese "tapas" style place (for lack of a better term), it has a french fusion feel. I'm not sure really what the origin of the cooking style is, but the food is exellent.

I'm a huge fan of Orris as well. Creative French/Japanese cuisine. However, it can be a bear getting seated on a weekend night because the restaurant doesn't have too many tables. Also, I can't recall if they take reservations.

My recommendation would be for Musha on Wilshire -- a Japanese Izakaya. Food is really tasty, ambience is pretty casual but nice, good service and it will definately be less than 100/per. A nice change of pace from a sushi or fusion place.
