Can anyone recommend a decent set of collar stays?

I've seen the threads, but there aren't any recommendations. What do you use?

Thought about these, but that a lot of dough:

I dont want plastic, though.

5 Rubles for each recommendation*, you know, for a bit of motivation.

If you're looking for inexpensive metal ones, Macy's and Filene's often have good stainless steel ones available, across a variety of sizes. They usually are anywhere between $15-$40 (depending on the brand, number of stays etc).

Heck, even Amazon has some available -- they don't look too bad (I mean, they go in your collar and they are metal). There are brass variety packs starting at 15 bucks.

I've the Nautica ones and a set of inexpensive Geoffrey Beene ones -- quite honestly, I can't tell the difference and well, they both serve the same purpose (and I lose them, so I like the fact that they're cheap).

And if you want something slightly better, you could always get the Brooks Brothers stays.

Wow. Blast from past.

Buy a Tyrwhitt shirt, get a set of metal collar stays in the bargain. Last time I checked, anyway.

Jos A Bank sells a set of (cheap) brass stays that includes a variety of styles. Brooks Bros also sells a set.

I've purchased a few of the Bank's sets over the years and find no reason to spend more.

This is what Bond would use; I'm sure of it.

Seriously, though, aren't collar stays pretty much all the same?

I also recommend the Charles Tyrwhitt brass collar stays. I think they're priced at £5 per pair right now, but they also come free with every shirt. Link. Quite stiff, if that's what you're after.

The long ("classic") ones are made for use with any shirt, while they cutaway are quite a bit shorter and are really only adapted to their particular style of cutaway collar.

I'm a big fan of the T&A mother of pearl collar stays - particularly the shape

What they won't necessarily tell you is that the metal, plastic and MOP stays are quite different - with the MOP ones being longer and broader than most others. This makes them perfect for my Sean O'Flynn made shirts - which have a taller and bigger collar than my T&A made ones. In fact, they really don't fit with T&A's normal collar style - so I don't know why they sell them. But I am glad that they do
