My first Ghurka bag was the No.5 Examiner in canvas and leather. I had it for 20 years. I still have the chestnut leather No. 2 Examiner that my wife bought me in 2003. It's ideal these days for overnight car trips.
I use a #2 Express (in chestnut leather) for short car trips and a #5 Examiner (in canvas and leather with an all leather back-up). I use my briefcases daily and am hard on them ... the Express less so.

Bespoke shirt recommendation stateside is Gene at Geneva Custom Shirts in NYC. Been there a long time, still make everything on site, relatively well priced.

I’ve been using him with success for years

Dear Gentlemen,

Re: Augsburger Knopffabrik

In deed there are some issues with colors because they use a certain terminology, for instance what color exactly is "marengo"? Is it a weathered black, is it very dark grey with mottling, or is it grey-black? One could tell only after the purchase!

But, although I am aware for some years now of this company - and they do have nice stuff - I cannot accept the minimum quantity of 25 buttons! Say that one wishes to buy something specific for a jacket, or a suit, they would need for the jacket 2-3 32L buttons + say 1-2 reserve ones (so, max. 5); what about the rest 20?

I think that this is workable only with commissions of similar nature, and then,..., one would end up with exactly the same buttons in all his garments!

Best,

Dimitris

Hi Konstanti,

Apart from the known ones (what @The Chai cited above), I am afraid no. For suits, the tailors are the last resort; for Sport Coats (I use horn buttons), Mr. Takis Stournaras.

That said, Augsburger have a very nice blue-grey which could be perfect for your Fox herringbone flannel commission:

I was thinking of using dark brown buttons for both navy grey ay herringbone suit and flannel suit. Do you think my preference is odd? Thanks.

To the contrary!

You mean horn, or corozo? If the former, I suggest you to contact Takis with the request to select the darker ones for you.

It came as a surprise the spalla insellata in my last suit order and this style is growing on me everyday.
