Also, with capactiors get paper in oil and get a .010 value. Gibson uses .022 stock, but when used with 50's wiring a 0.10 value gives you more room to control tone. The 0.022 gets muddy faster.
If you are interested in 50's wiring I recommend that you rip out everything in the electronics panel and start with better quality parts as I mentioned. Here is the wiring difference between modern and 50's below.
Also, if you find that you don't like 50's wiring it is easy to put it back to Modern, but it still is in your benefit to upgrade all of your parts.
Allllllso, I have found that 50's wiring works better for more vintage replica, or vintage style/output pickups. Gibson switched to modern wiring because it better suited the "darker" heavier pickups guitarists sought out in the 70's and 80's.
